The mayor of Naples on Wednesday called for Italy to declare a national state of emergency as firefighters, continued to battle a huge blaze on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, while almost 300 wildfires raged across the country as a whole.
A total of 70 firefighters, together with Civil Protection volunteers were tackling the fire on the ground and using three helicopters.
